Athlete Matters

Athlete Matters is based at Worsley Physio Clinic, 2 minutes from Junctions 13 and 14 of the M60, which is very accessible to all of the North West.We provide Sports injury management using the most up to date evidence based and innovative techniques, our Triathlon expertise is second to none. We also provide injury prevention services (Prehabilitation) to athletes including sports massage, acupuncture and run exercise classes weekly including the 'unique and innovative' runners and triathlete specific Core Stability classes. Physiotherapy

Paul Savage has over ten years experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist, he competes regularly in Triathlon and Aquathlons, where he recently finished 5th in the 2008 age 30-35 European Championships. He is particularly skilled in bike biomechanical assessment and set up related to injury, his competitive triathlon experience being invaluable in discovering the cause of your injuries and working with you to integrate your rehabilitation back into your training. Paul is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Physiotherapists.

Duncan Mason the Clinic Director has over 20 years experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist and is a lecturer in Physiotherapy at Salford University His expertise lies in the field of movement dysfunction, particularly in the field of running injuries comes from many years competing at National and International levels in road running. He has finished in the top 30 at the London Marathon and has times of 65 mins for half marathon and 2:21 for the marathon to his credit. He currently works with most of the top runners in the Manchester area including two out of the top three British marathon runners from 2007. He was also the Elite Athlete Physiotherapist at the Great North Run 2007.

Gemma Murphy also uses her experiences as an elite athlete to enhance her management of athletes, she finished 24th in the 2007 Flora London marathon in a 2:50 clocking and makes her triathlon debut in the Blenheim sprint event 2008. She is also a member of the Acupuncture Association of Physiotherapists, is trained in Pilates and is highly skilled in running injury management.

Podiatry

Chartered Podiatrist and Ironman Triathlete Barry Richards is at the forefront of foot and ankle biomechanics research, he works at Salford University gait laboratory where he leads research into running injuries, he provides a specialist Sports Podiatry service only at Athlete Matters, with computerised gait analysis and bike fit/ biomechanical analysis on Monday afternoon and evening clinics.

Triathlon Core Stability

7:30pm - 8.30pm on Mondays at Worsley Physio Clinic

The class lasts for one hour and costs £5.Core Stability will enhance performance and help with injury prevention. In the winter months the class can be preceded by a free turbo session and in the summer, by a run on the leafy trails of Worsley Woods.Over the two years it has been running this has become an important part of many of Manchester Triathlon club members training, both to prevent and rehabilitate from injury. Benefits include more resistance to injury, improved reported economy and power output on the bike and more efficient stroke and control in the water. The class has been devised from research findings and is at the cutting edge of motor control retraining, we have been invited to speak internationally on this subject.
