Reason for starting triathlon
- After finishing the Wilmslow half marathon, I bumped into work colleague (Martin Webb), who persuaded me that Triathlon was the way forwards. Never one to shirk a challenge, I then entered the Friar Tuck sprint triathlon completing the swim with a storming combination of front crawl (about 4 lengths) and breaststroke (remainder of the swim) and the bike was on an old MTB. No records were broken to say the least, but I enjoyed it enough to come back for much, much more!
Best moment in triathlon
- Sherborne Half IronMan 2004 - beating target time of 5 hours by 20 seconds, and finishing with a quicker run time than several of the pros, although admittedly, they had finished a good hour earlier!
Worst moment in triathlon
- Completing 400m in my first triathlon in just about the same time I can now swim 1000m. Was I really that bad? Oh yes!
Most embarrassing moment in triathlon
- Having to get someone to change my tub at New Mills triathlon before the race, as I'd not sussed out how to do it
Best running results
- 2nd place at Anglesey Marathon 2004 (I also needed a hernia operation at the time!), plus numerous other top 5 results in distances ranging from 5K to half marathon
- 10K PB 32m57s
- Half marathon PB 1h12m57s
- Marathon PB 2h27m52s
Best triathlon / duathlon results.
- 11th in age Group at World Long Distance Duathlon Championships 2008
- 8th New Mills Sprint triathlon 2007
- 11th Rivington Olympic 2007 (despite puncturing!)
- 4th North West Series 2007
