Braintree Triathlon Sunday 4th June
Report by Cathy Atkinson
What better way to round of a week of camping in sunny (!) Suffolk than Sunday's Braintree Sprint Triathlon? We had already attracted great interest during the preceding week by displaying our MTC colours at a couple of East Anglian time trials, so we'd got quite used to the pre race "you've come a long way" comments. It was Steve's first race for over three years, which may account for him trying to put on my helmet and shoes as he came into T1. Off onto a fast, if undulating, out and back bike course. Unfortunately taking a corner on a newly gravelled bike section, my chain bounced off, just before the only steep hill on the course, losing me about a minute and a half. The run was very hot, with lots of twists and turns. Steve must have been enjoying himself so much at this stage that he added an off course foray up and down a big hill (delighting the spectators who spotted him in the distance). Meanwhile, having spent the entire run sulking, I was subsequently amazed when my name was read out for third woman. A top little event – highly recommended if you ever feel like venturing east!
