Affiliation

Man Tri is affiliated with the Amateur Swimming Association for Masters Swimmers (18+). The affiliation period runs from 1st January - 31st December each year. Each individual MTC member  who wishes to compete in swimming events for the club is also required to join the ASA as a category 2 member if you wish to swim in competitions for the club.

For your information the categories of ASA membership are listed below:

  • Category 1 - Shall include all members of any age who are learning to swim or who are swimmers at any level, who do not compete in any discipline in open competition, other than those exempted under Law 312.1.2 and those competitions designated as 'Low Level Competition'.
  • Category 2 - Shall include all members of any age who compete in any discipline in open competitions other than those exempted under law 312.1.2 and those compettions desgnated as 'Low Level Competition'.
  • Category 3 - Shall include all members of any age who are not in categories one or two including but not limited to any person who have voting tights in their club by virtue of being a parent of or a person with parental responsibility for a member in categories one or two; administrators; associate members; coaches.

Below is a definition of Low Level Competition for Master Swimming:
  • Club events providing:
    • Competitors are all members of the club promoting the event
  • Inter-club competitions providing:
    • The event does not include more than eight clubs
    • The participating clubs must be invited by the promoter to take part in the event
    • The promoter has supplied the conditions for the event
    • The whole event takes place in one pool on one occasion and does not form a series of events, the results of which are aggregated or considered together to decide the eventual winner
  • Closed county events providing:
    • The event is open to members of clubs affiliated to a single county or to members of clubs affiliated to a group of two or three adjacent countieis.
In order to compete in all other asa or British Swimming Masters events, including open meets, district/regional events and National events members must be fully paid up category 2 members.


Because of this final point and for ease of administration at this stage we will not be providing the option of Category 1 membership as anyone wishing to enter an open water swimming event organised by the ASA must be a catergory 2 member.  It has been agreed with the ASA that only members of the committee will become category 3 members and this cost will be met by the club.

 

PLEASE NOTE: At this time ASA membership through Manchester Triathlon Club is only available to adult members (18+).

The MTC shop will soon (from 01/01/10) be open online for you to pay the Category 2 membership fee for 2010 of £30.00 which includes the ASA fee (£22), Region fee (£4), County Fee (£0.20) and processing/administration costs (£3.80).  Follow the link to the MTC shop at the bottom of the page to pay online.

The swimming coordinator will be processing ASA membership payments every 2 weeks between October and March then monthly after that e.g, 14th Nov and 1st Dec for all people who have paid during Nov and 1st May for all those who have paid during April, etc.

Once you have paid your ASA membership fees online the swimming coordinator will send out to you a 'Category 2 & Multiclub Registration Form' (Yellow).  This must be completed in BLACK INK and BLOCK CAPITALS and returned to Swimming Coordinator at the address provided.

Once all forms are returned from the current batch they will be sent together to the ASA who will process them and return membership cards to members.  Please be patient as regards receiving your card.  If your card hasn't arrived and you require your membership number for a gala then please contact the swimming coordinator.

If you will be competing at National Championships or internationally (Masters not included) then you will also need to complete a Medical Declaration Form to identify the current medication you are taking.  Don't leave this till the last minute and contact the swimming coordinator to request the form as soon as you think this will be the case.

If you are aready a member of another ASA club and wish to join MTC in addition to them please contact the Swimming Coordinator for further information.  There are no fees to be paid to the ASA in this situation so the cost to you will be minimal.
