Race Reports and Results
As so many MTC members are now racing in different races it can be difficult keeping up with everyone's achievements. If you have an especially good, bad or exotic race experience, please share it with everyone by sending a race report to Rob Harper (webmaster@man-tri-club.org.uk) who will post it on the website. This is especially interesting to other club members if it relates to international races or qualifying events. For the homepage to be regularly updated with recent MTC achievements, please email your race results to me (nicksajedi@yahoo.com).
Race Photos
If you have photos of yourself or any other MTC members racing, please download them to the Flickr account . We're particularly interested in establishing a Speedo Hall of Shame for fashion crimes in the 80s and 90s.
2010 National Relay Club Championships
As 2010 is the 21st anniversary of the club, we are aiming to celebrate it by entering 21 teams in the National Club Relay Championships on August 21st. The National Relays are a classic weekend of racing and socialising which involves racing on the Saturday and camping on the Friday and Saturday nights at the National Watersports Centre near Nottingham. The racing is as serious as you want it to be, but the main emphasis is to have a good time. Saturday night invariably involves a barbeque and several beers at the campsite.
The format is as follows: each team consists of four people, and every team member completes the same discipline in a relay format before moving onto the next discipline. The overall finishing time is achieved when the fourth member finishes the run.
The organisers have kindly reserved us places for 21 teams until April 1st after which they will be released for general entry. Entry will be directly through the club, and exact details will follow shortly. The club is also contributing to the cost of race entries to enable more people to participate.
It is therefore essential that people start organising themselves into teams of four as soon as possible. You can enter as a single or mixed sex team, and all abilities are encouraged to participate. We're hoping to tempt some of the old-school members out of retirement and enter some teams of ‘originals' complete with Speedos. If you are new to the club or unsure of you ability, please don't be put off. The emphasis of the weekend is to have as much fun as possible, and bring as many club members together to celebrate our 21st anniversary.
Again, please don't enter directly as we will soon be taking payment directly through the MTC website. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Further details can be found at www.onestepbeyond.org.uk.
North West Series
With the increasing number of multisport races now available to enter, it can become a problem prioritising events. Consequently, MTC members are often spread over numerous events throughout the country, and a competitive team spirit can often be lacking.
With this in mind, I'm offering the suggestion that MTC members target the 2010 North West British Triathlon Series. There is a range of distances and disciplines, and the races include the North West triathlon champs (standard and sprint distance), duathlon champs and regional (and national) aquathlon champs. Two of the races are organised by MTC, so you're guaranteed good support.
It would be great to see as many MTC members flying the flag, wearing club kit and dominating the awards as possible. The series is listed below:
- NW Duathlon Championships - 14th March - Parbold Duathlon
- NW Standard Distance Triathlon Championships - 6th June - Deva Triathlon Chester
- NW Aquathon Championships - 17th July - Salford Quays
- NW Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships - 25th July - Boundary Breeze Triathlon
The above races and the Helvellyn Middle Distance Triathlon on 5th September will form the NW series. Points will be awarded for each race completed.
Full entry details can be found in the events section at britishtriathlon.org.
