Unfortunately I've just had word from Phil at the Aquatics that they will have to cancel our session on Monday evening (02.08.10) as they have not yet been able to resolve the issues with the moveable floors. Again I will keep everyone informed of the latest developments. The training pool downstairs is unaffected so Sunday's session is on as normal.

Mark Hanna reports on his race at Challenge Roth, one of the must do races on the long distance circuit. Mark said it was harder writing the report than doing the event, but having read it, it was worth the trouble.  So much so I've just signed up for Roth 2011.

Read on to find out how Barry Sherwood got on at this years Ironman Austria......

I have been participating in Triathlon now for 3 years and 12 months ago thought I would enter Ironman Austria, oh how quickly those 12 months went by, over the past few months my training has included 2.4 mile swims, 100 mile cycle rides and running around 16 miles, I only had one goal and that was to finish within the 17 hours...

There has been a thread on the events section of the forum recently to see if any members are interested in taking part in Masters swimming competitions. As well as being a Triathlon, Running and Cycling Club, Man Tri is an ASA affiliated swim club. This means that if you want to take part in swimming competitions you can affiliate to the ASA through the club and that the we can enter teams into all levels of event.

With many club members, particularly quite a few ladies, embarking on their first half iron man event this season, I thought it would be useful to give you an insight into my experience of my first half IM last month in sunny Barcelona. For those seasoned long distance folk among, you may well sneer at my puerile observations but this is written for those new to anything longer than standard distance triathlons. We all have to start somewhere!

I've just completed my first triathlon and it's a great, great feeling.

I joined the club in December 2009, having not swum since my teens and never really run much. But I was really enjoying the training and thought I should enter a race for something to aim for. I know Coniston and the surrounding area pretty well having done quite a bit of walking round those parts so thought this would be a good one to go for. With hindsight it may have been wiser to do a flatter race for my first outing!

In January 2010 Man Tri held their first official winter training camp, with twenty four people of all abilities jetting off to Club la Santa, Lanzarote. The idea was simple: get away from the snow and ice, do loads of training and drink lots of beer. All three goals were easily achieved, and the camp was generally hailed as a resounding success.

Just a quick explanation for the cancellation of the Monday evening swim session at Moss Side 19.00-20.00 on Mon 9th November.  There was a power failure at the centre that lead to half of the pool water draining away.  The whole centre was closed meaning that our session was cancelled.  Unfortunately they didn't let me know in enough time to tell members not to go along. Moss Side managed to fix things in time for the Tuesday AM session.

THE SESSION WILL THEREFORE BE ON AS NORMAL THIS COMING WEEK SO GET DOWN THERE AND DO SOME SWIMMING.

With the nights getting darker then why not keep up your cycling fitness indoors at one of the clubs turbo training sessions. The friday evening session at Stretford began last month. In addition we will also be running a circuit based Strength & Conditioning Session alongside the turbo again in the DANCE STUDIO. Experienced coach and personal trainer Nick Thomas will be leading the session that will focus on strength endurance, injury prevention, posture, flexibility and balance.

As with all MTC sessions these will continue as long as there is demand so don't delay, get involved today...... (well from next Tuesday!).
