Winter Scramble #1: Mary Townley Relay - Leg 5: Sat 15.12

Postby Rob Harvey » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:43 pm

Hi,

This saturday there will be leading a recci of the Mary Townley Loop Leg 5 (11 miles) as the first of this year winter scrambles.

Map of route here:
http://drive.123-reg.co.uk/F/53615159/EMBED

We will meet at the race finish at 12.30. We will squeeze into a few cars and drive over to the start of the leg to begin at 1pm. We should be finished by 3pm at the latest. - SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS.

Come prepared for bad weather as you would need to for the race so bum bag with full windproof covering, copy of the route, etc. Bring a MAP

Meet Point for 12.30 is the car park (or outside if it is shut) of:
Fearns Community College
Fearns Moss
Stacksteads
Bacup
Lancashire
OL13 0TG

We will leave at 12.40 prompt to drive over to Whitworth.
We will park close to the cross roads between Taylor St, Whitworth Square, Whitworth Rake and Waingate Cresent. To get there turn off the A671 in Whitworth up Church Street and onto Taylor Street. Find somewhere appropriate to park (i believe there is a nice pub around here somewhere) and meet at the cross roads.

We will aim to leave up Whitworth Rake before bearing right at first right after reaching open ground. We will follow this path until it joins High Gate Lane where will will turn right. At the junction with Tonacliffe Road we will turn right and follow this road till it meets the A671 (Market Street). We will then cross over the river turn left and follow a path through the trees following the river. If you are late then meet us on the bridge over the river near where Tonacliffe Road meets the Market Street.

Weather forecast looks like it will be cold (-2/+2) so make sure you have some layers. From memory trail shoes is probably best as most of the way it is rocky/stony paths or road.

thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

I've tried to download the map and directions but the quality on my computer/printer is terrible. Do you have any other directions/info.

I've been suffering with an injury this week, but definitely hope to be mended by Saturday and join you there.

Best wishes
Cathy

Hmm, not sure why it's not possible to download the map...

Anyway, I've drawn it onto a Google Map for you:
