Sign up for Manchester Area Cross Country League 2007/8

Postby Rob Harvey » Wed Aug 15, 2007 12:16 pm

Names that appear on the list below have been pre-entered into the cross country series. Registration is possible on the day for those that have missed the deadline for pre-entry.

Calling all mud lovers..... these events are for you!

This season we are going to enter the Manchester Area Cross Country League. It will be a great way to keep your running fitness over the winter. And it will only cost £1 to take part - see end of email 'what does it cost' - (We will be organising additional weekend run sessions at some of the venues as training/prep for the races).

Paul Skipper and me will act as Team Manager/s and sort out affiliation, deal with the league and keep everyone update on how we are doing (unless someone would like to volunteer?). We would also like a volunteer to be captain at each event, collect numbers and generally make sure everyone know what to do. Reply to this thread if you would like to help out.

The league requires us to submit a list of MTC members who are going to compete. (Additional people can be added at each race but to ease the burden on the organisors they would prefer to get people registered in advance. They have also asked that we don't just register all runners in the club as this will create unnecessary work too.)

Each of these runners will be assigned a number for use in ALL races.

These numbers will be collected at the first race and the runner will be responsible for presenting themselves at each match with their number.

For anyone who isn't competing in the first race the league organisor will hold onto your number until the next race, etc. however once you have competed the number is yours to look after.

Please reply to this thread with the events you plan to compete in and your Date of Birth before the 1st October:

*Match 1: Saturday 27th October 2007 - Heaton Park, Manchester
Match 2: Saturday 17th November 2007 - Boggart Hole Clough, Blackley
Match 3: Sunday 2nd December 2007 - Sherdley Park, St Helens
Match 4: Sunday 13th January 2008 - Woodbank Park, Stockport
*Match 5: Satruday 9th February 2008 - Wythenshawe Park, Manchester

Team Captain for each event:

Match 1: Rob Harvey / Paul Skipper
Match 2: Konrad Steinert
Match 3: Andy Chalmers
Match 4: Ala Jackson
Match 5: Sarah Lees

THE RESPONSIBLITIES OF THE TEAM CAPTAIN ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Manchester Cross Country League Match Captain

Collect outstanding numbers from previous Match Captain.
Start a thread on events section of forum with all details for the day including - Directions, Meet time, Meet place.
Add your contact details to the forum thread so that competitors can contact you on the day
Arrive before 1pm at the pre-arranged meeting place as listed on forum (as all Juniors have already picked up numbers). This gives time for senior men and women who haven't raced to pick up numbers.
Give out race numbers in return for £5 from pre-registered people racing for the first time. This covers registration and race entry for all races. Inform people that numbers have to be kept for all races, SO DON'T THROW THEM AWAY.
Point any one who hasn't pre-registered in the direction of the registration desk. Ask them to return with their number so it can be recorded and to pay outstanding money to a value of £5.
Whenever anyone pays record how much they paid
Hand over the collected money to the Team Organisor/s (Skip and Rob!) either at the event or as soon afterwards as can be arranged. Team organisors will update the original forum post with who has paid any any additional registrations.
    Write a brief race report

Start Times and maximum distances for each event are as follows:

12.00 - U11 girls (2,200m)
12.15 - U11 boys and U13 girls (2,400m)
12.30 - U13 boys and U15 girls (3,000m)
12.50 - U15 boys and U17 girls (4,500m)
13.20 - U17 youths and U20 ladies (6,000m)
13.50 - SNR and VET ladies (8,000m)
14.30 - SNR, U20 and VET men (9,600m) - I think VET is 35 for women and 40 for men

*Note: U11 boys and U11 girls will not run in match number 1 and 5

Ages:

U11 - must be 9 and U11 on 17/11/07
U13 - must be at least 11 on the 27/10/07 or 12 on the 31/08/2007
U15 - aged 13 or 14 on 31/08/2007
U17 - Aged 15 or 16 on 31/08/2007
U20 - Aged 17 or over on 31/08/2007 but under 20 on 31/12/07
Seniors/Vets - Age as of 27/10/07

Website for the league: http://www.manchesterareaxc.com

What does it cost:

The club will cover the cost of affiliating to the league, but we will be charged 50p retrospectively for each runner for each race they compete in.
************************************
So the team manager at each event will collect £1 from everyone who competes. 50p will be used to cover the race entry and 50p will go to a prize fund at the end of the season.
************************************

Instead of collecting the money as *highlighted* above we will now be collecting £5 from each competitor the first time they race. After the final event based on races completed you will be entitled to a refund, however we are suggesting that the spare money be given to charity. This will save Team Captains alot of hassle on the day.

We can not find the information on the organisers new website but in previous years there has been the rule that CLUB VESTS are COMPULSORY
Therefore we are advising
Club vests MUST be worn. (This is the leagues rule not ours. NO vest, NO race. You have been warned)

I'd like to do some but only if there is going to be a slow team (& no pressure to be any good!)

I think I'll be away for the Boggart Hole Clough one but will try to keep the other dates free.

DOB 03/04/77.

(Thanks for suggesting this, i have some great inov8 fell shoes that have hardly been worn.)
