Enrique Flores - Channel Swim Attempt

Postby gadobson » Mon Jul 23, 2007 1:18 pm

For those who are interested, I will be posting live updates of Enrique's swim as and when it happens.

At the minute the weather's pretty bad so Enrique and Dave Q are currently waiting in Dover.

They're hoping to be able to start the swim tomorrow morning around 4am. Let's keep our fingers crossed for them.

Enrique is keeping a website up to date with pictures and comments, see below:

Latest Update:

Enrique will be swimming the Channel tomorrow, Tuesday 24th July on the 06:30 tide.

The Weather Forecast is for a North-Westerly wind to blow him on his way and a gentle sun to warm his back.

Good Luck Enrique!

Bad news I'm afraid. :(

It's been put off again. When Enrique and Dave Q met the skipper this morning, he showed them the latest most accurate forecast: Winds Force 6 to Gale Force 8 with 2-3 m seas.
Enrique would never make it across and he certainly wouldn't be able to land.

Everyone is a bit down now. So lets wish them all the best and cross our fingers for them to be able to go tomorrow.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't have to wait two and a half weeks like I did!! It's horrible sitting around waiting! I hope he took lots of puzzles and dvds!

I hope he does it!! Go Enrique!!

Latest News:
No Swim until Thursday at Earliest.
Enrique has still got until the 31st to do the swim so weather permitting he's still got a chance to do it.
He's got a really strong support team there with him to keep him motivated, although Dave Q has had to leave to go back to Manchester (Work commitments) and is understandably gutted.

Lets Keep our fingers crossed.

Yep, Literaly just got a text message off Dave Q.

Still No Go.

Enrique went for a 1 hour swim last night in Dover Harbour, and was apparently quite battered by then end, after "battling vicious choppy waters and 1m+ waves".

Current wind speed is around 48mph
Dover is currently closed to ferries for a while and the surrounding roads are apparently chaotic.

Forecast is abominable for the weekend but supposed to get swimmable by monday or tuesday.

Lets hope...

Latest News:

Got a text of Dave Q to say that Enrique was to start the swim at 22:30 tonight (sunday) for a lovely moonlight dip.

Haven't had any further news so hopefully everything is going really well...
