MTC Warm Weather Training Camp - 23rd Feb 2012

Postby Rob Harvey on Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:58 pm

Hi all,

Details now online for club camp to Southern Spain: http://tinyurl.com/cceczwc

The camp will be based at Kinetic PB who have converted a rowing center built in 2005 for an international championship into a training facility for endurance athletes. I've been and visited the place and the training on offer is excellent. As there is an open water canal on site as well as a permanent transition area then doing specific brick sessions and races is very easy. A group of MTC coaches are going out to the facility over NY in order to get used to the swim, bike and run options in the area so that they can properly support the camp at the end of February.

Thanks

Rob

I'll be the 'brave' soul who's first to express interest in this!
Is there something I'm missing or is everyone too busy shopping, eating and drinking to think of training?
Given I have experienced the joys of the dorms at the training weekend, I'd prefer to stay at Desert Springs.

Hopefully I won't be the only post on here by New Year!!!

Ben me and Paul Hawkins are going to be out there. We're going out here with a load of others first at the end of this month for a bit of training and to reccy some of the routes so when everyone comes out there for the Man tri camp we will be able to lead some rides and runs. They will be at whatever pace the group wants to ride at though and if there's enough people out there me and Paul will probably take turns leading a faster group and a slower one, or shorter and longer depending on what people want.

Good work Ben, I've had a couple of direct enquiries too so you are not the only one interested! We also haven't emailed the info out to members yet which means many won't have seen or heard about the trip yet.

As Joe said him and Paul are scheduled to go along to support ride/runs and coach some swims. They'll know the area well by the time the trip goes in Feb and are both tapering for a Middle Distance Triathlon in Valencia the following weekend so will be more than happy to ride/run at appropriate paces!!

Desert Springs is very nice and a great place to unwind after a hard days training.

Great swimming, awesome running trails and some of the best cycling that Europe has to offer. Get out there or you'll regret it.

I'm hoping so I've spoke to a few people who have said there interested but haven't signed up as there worried no one else is. It would be handy if they posted on here so everyone else knew who was up for it.

The pictures on the web site really don't do justice to how good the place is, thw running and cycling are incredible and I will without doubt be going back.

Other points of note are the accommodation is really cheap I think 25 euros a night which includes unlimited use of the facilities. My flights cost 140 pound return with bike from Manchester with easyjet. The food and drink out there is also very very cheap a typical meal with a couple of beers cost me 11 euros and I was stuffed after that, there is alps a kitchen on site if you prefer to cook. Oh and the most important thing is that its about 1 euro for a coffee at literally every cafe.

I think a lot of peiple might be put off by me and Paul being the "tour guides" or what ever were called as they think were going to smash people. Thus is completely the wrong impression as ne and Paul have a big race 4 days after the camp so will not be going hard at all. We know plenty of routes ranging from flat to hilly and from 1 hour to 5 hours so we can take you out on any kinds of rides you like without you having to worry about directions. As well as this we know lots of trail runs which we are happy to lead.

I really hope this goes ahead as it really is an amazing place to train and you won't be disappointed.

The camp is definitely going ahead as we only really need 10 people to make it viable. As our average has been 20+ on previous camps then I'm sure we can make that. There's been plenty of interest/enquirers but I guess everyone is just holding on to their money till the last minute because people on the news keep telling us we should do! It would be great if people can send in their deposits before the end of the month.

Joe and Paul know the area well know having been out their for a couple of weeks and like Joe says it's great for training.

Thanks

Rob

I'm interested in going. Just need to know if there are any other extras, like the cost to hire a bike or a wetsuit (if wetsuits are being used)?

Never done anything like this before, but it looks like fun. Odd but I don't really do triathlon, but I swim, cycle and run, but never as a complete thing. Is this going to kill me? Lol
Cheers, Mike

I'm not sure if you can hire wetsuits out there but i'm sure Rob will be able to give you a bit more info on that? Normally you bring your own so there is no hidden charges as it's your own kit.

Weather or not it will kill you is entirely dependent on you. You can do as much or as little training as you want me and Paul will be there and on hand to lead runs and rides. You can use it as a chill out/get away and just do a some easy rides or what ever but it really is a great place and if you enjoy sport you seriously will love it and it will be a really good laugh.
