This report just in from Matt Backhouse:
On Saturday 7th March, two of Man Tri’s newest junior members, Christian Preece and Aimee Backhouse competed in the Clumber Park sprint duathlon. Christian and Aimee (both 16 years old) are members of the regional academy called the NW JETS, which is coached by Dave Green and Marc Laithwaite.
The sprint duathlon, which was contested over 5km/20km/2.5km attracted a good calibre of entry, as well as some less experienced athletes. Christian finished 6th overall in the senior men’s race, with an exceptionally quick run off the bike, finishing in a time of 1.01.07, less than 2 minutes behind the winner, Rich Sumpter, in 59.15.
Aimee also had a great race, leaving T1 with Vanessa Raw (Olympic academy/ world cup athlete). Although she was unable to match Vanessa’s bike speed, Aimee had a great second run, finishing 3rd overall female, behind Rachel Hobbs (ETU age group gold medallist duathlete), with a time of 1.07.31 which was just over 2 minutes behind Vanessa.
