Well done to all the runners taking part in the XC league this year. Cheers to all the organisers etc too. I really enjoyed these races.. especially the great support, the freezing hail (?) at Shredley park , the big muddy hillock (?) at Stockport.. and not forgetting the yummy cakes at Boggart!

Just got back from skiing (missing the last race  )... and noticed that only Nina & Michelle represented the ladies!!!! Where were you all???!! ).

Well done to all the folks who ran at least 4 races and those given an overall position on the web were:
Nina McArthur 3rd <17 ladies
Jude Wall 3rd >35 ladies
me ( ) 6th >35 (quite proud!)
Michelle W 11th >40 ladies
Paul Barrett 11th senior men
Chris Brobin 14th senior men
Andy Quicke 17th senior men
Alistair Cairns 22nd senior men
Andy Chalmers 17th >40 men
Dave Moon 7th >50 men

(sorry if i didn't spot any others from the website)

(well done Nina did you get a good prize???).

Looking forward to next year already...
Cheers Sonia

Re: Results and Prizes - Manchester Cross Country League 2007/8

Postby Rob Harvey » Wed Jul 16, 2008 10:46 am

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Manchester XC League Match for 07/08. For the clubs first season I would call it a great success, hopefully one that can be matched this season.

A few facts:

28 male members totalling 68 race starts
19 female members totalling 35 race starts
2 U17 boy members totalling 4 race starts
1 U17 girl members totalling 5 race starts
So by my maths that equals 50 different club members with a total of 112 race starts.
2 league prize winners!

Full league results can be found on this page: http://www.forensicdentistryonline.org/ ... _MANXC.htm

At each event we were collecting £5 from people to cover entry to all races if you wished to take part. Now we have paid the dues to the league we have money left over for some prizes. It was agreed that 50% of this prize fund would be donated to MTC's charity of choice. For a while now this has been the NSPCC. A cheque for £94.50 has been sent to them. Worth getting muddy for.

That leaves a further £94.50 as a prize fund. After prolonged and heated discussion, we (Skip and me) came up with two ideas. The runner up was how many matches people took part in, as, after all you have to be in it to win it. A few people were always in it - Andy Quicke, Andy Chalmers, Dave Moon and Nina McArthur. We salute you! Everyone who took part in 3 or more are listed:

Men's Senior
Andy Quicke - 5
Chris Brobin - 4
Alistair Cairns - 4
Chris Diggle - 3
Rob Harper - 3
Brian Mullan - 3
John Murray - 3
Paul Skipper - 3
Gary Wolstencroft - 3

MV40
Andy Chalmers - 5

MV45
George Lipscombe - 3

MV50
Dave Moon 5
Dave Leak 3

Boys U17
Sam Glover 3

Female Senior
Sarah Lees 3

FV35
Judith Wall 4
Sonia Harris 4

FV40
Michelle Wilder 4

Girls U17
Nina McArthur 5

The winning ideas was based on participation and performance by giving prizes, to the MTC winner and runner up in each category. In order to qualify for the final standings you had to take part in 4 or more races so again participation was the key. The overall position refers to your age group:

Female U17:
1. 3rd Overall - Nina McArthur

Female Over 35:
1. 3rd Overall - Judith Wall
2. 6th Overall - Sonia Harris

Female Over 40:
1. 11th Overall - Michelle Wilder

Male Senior:
1. 14th Overall - Chris Brobin
2. 17th Overall - Andy Quicke
3. 22nd Overall - Alister Cairns

Male Over 40s:
1. 17th Overall - Andy Charmers

Male Over 50s:
1. 7th Overall - Dave Moon

So what are the prizes are hear you shouting??? Well sticking with the principal that giving is better than receiving and doing something for charity makes all your efforts worth while (and the fact we may never get round to a presentation evening to give any of the prizes out) we've been negotiating hard with Oxfam and here's what we have come up with:

Prizes for the winners

Nina McArthur has donated.... 2 dozen chickens
Judith Wall has donated.... 5 bags of seed
Michelle Wilder has....Helped out in an emergency
Chris Brobin has donated..... A wireless er
Andy Chalmers has donated..... Safe water for 25
Dave Moon has donated...... Mosquito Nets

Prizes for the runner/s up

Sonia Harris has donated..... 100 school dinners for children
Andy Quicke and Alistair Cairns have donated....... 2 text book (one each)

I have cards for everyone and more details of the prizes can be found on the Oxfam website

Congratulations to all and details about this seasons XC league will be available soon.

Thanks

Rob

Like it - very benevolent Rob. I reckon I'll do some more XC this year, I'd like to donate chickens and bags of seed too :-)
any news on this years races?
If you think you can do it, then you're right. If you think you can't do it, then you're still right.
