7 Marathons

Postby Pauline on Fri May 04, 2012 7:51 pm

Just to add to some of the crazy things that Man Tri members do, I would like to add the 7 marathons in 7 days challenge.

Some of you know of my upcoming challenge and I'd like to give you a little update on how I've been getting on. For those of you who don't know, I'll be
running 7 marathons in 7 days in Wales from the 13th of May.

I'll be running from the base of Snowdon in North Wales, aiming to arrive in Cardiff Bay on the 19th, a total distance of 183.6 miles – or 7 marathons in 7 days. I'm not the only one who thinks that this challenge is a good idea - there are 7 of us taking on the challenge. Thankfully, all the rest are also physios so we should be able to patch each other up each evening in preparation for another marathon the next day. I've been doing a huge amount of training in the last few months, that is apart from a couple of brief periods of injury. I am confident that I will be able to run the whole distance if I can manage to keep the injuries at bay!

This is by far the longest road running event ever staged in Wales, and so world records are up for grabs! Just to give you an idea of how tough this will be, the route includes more climbs and total hill ascents than the Snowdon Marathon, which is called the toughest road race in Europe... and that’s just on Day 1!

And why are we doing it? The temptation is to say, as Mallory did about Everest, ‘because it’s there’, but more seriously, we are doing it to raise money for charity. I'm supporting 2 charities - the MS Society and BIADS (Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support group).

More details can be found on the website: http://www.snowdon2cardiff.co.uk/

If any of you are able to sponsor me, no matter how small the amount, I would be very grateful. (There is a donation link on the website, or contact me if you don't want to use that facility).

I'll try to give updates during the week if I'm able.

Brian, my plan is to turn up on the first day, run a marathon, recover as best I can and repeat for 6 more days!
I'm not going to be running for any times, it's more a matter of survival!

PS. You're partly to blame for me getting involved in this one! Before I met the likes of you, I was perfectly happy with short runs!

I'm feeling excited! Frantically trying to make sure I have all the stuff I need to bring with me. The list is long. Though really, all I need to bring is a pair of running shoes and some clothes. Oh and lots and lots of food!

Here's hoping for good weather! :)

Off the phone with @PaulineG_27 after marathon 1 of 7. Day went well, very windy, very hilly. Blenauffestineog was it's usual chirpy self :/
She ran about 4:20 I think, easy pace, no point going fast first day. All happy and eating back at basecamp.
