How To Enter Time Trials

The purpose of this page is to provide information for newcomers to world of cycling time trials.

There is a list of suggested local time trials in this section. Also some details on local courses here. A list of all CTT events can be found on their website www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk.

Essentially cycling time trials fall into three categories:

  1. Those you can enter on the night - called club events.
  2. The official CTT ones where you have to enter at least 10 days in advance - called open events.
  3. Those run by the The League International (TLI) which you enter on the line.

Enter on the night TT's - Club events

These are run by a number of local clubs, more details on these local club time trials is available here. Most of these events are 10 mile courses in Cheshire although there some 25 mile races and hill climbs for those feeling keen. If it's your first race it's best to go down with someone else so you understand exactly what you need to do.

Official CTT TT's - Open events

Details of these can be found via the Cycling time trials website (follow this link for events in the Machester area) or via the CTT handbook which can be purchased for £5.50 in most bike shops. The above website contains the details of the open races for 2006 in the UK.

A blank entry form can be found on the CTT website together with a completed example.

Once you've filled the form in and sent it off with your cheque you will receive start details in the week leading up to the race which will include your start time and the race HQ where you need to sign on. Most local races are around Chelford and details of the local courses can be found on the Cycling Time Trials website.

The League International (TLI) TTs

TLI time trials are held on Saturday mornings and start near the Yellow Broome which is a bit beyond Jodrell Bank. These are run like a club 10 - you pay your money and race. TLI have a web site but it does not have much about local TTs.

Dress protocol

The acceptable cycling attire is cycling top/t-shirt and shorts or skinsuit but certainly not swimming costume/trunks or tri vests!
